Optimizing Rice Fertilization for Maximum Yields and Environmental Impact
The study tested a computer model called CERES-Rice to see how different amounts of nitrogen fertilizer affect rice yield. The model worked well with low levels of nitrogen, but not as well with too much nitrogen. The ratio of base fertilizer to top dressing didn't have a big impact on yield. Errors occurred with high nitrogen levels because the model didn't consider how nitrogen affects the distribution of nutrients in the rice plant.
