Grassland in Xinjiang Decreasing Rapidly, Leading to Quality Changes.
The researchers used satellite images and GIS technology to study changes in grassland in Xinjiang from 1990 to 2000. They found that while there was a balance between grassland and unused land, the total amount of grassland decreased significantly due to farming and tree planting. However, there was a positive shift from moderate and sparse grass to dense grass, which helped offset the overall loss of grassland.
