Aquatic plants found to significantly purify eutrophic water bodies.
Aquatic plants like rice, water spinach, and water bamboo can help clean up polluted water by removing phosphorus. In a study, these plants were grown in dirty water from Dianchi Lake, and they successfully took out a lot of phosphorus. The plants removed between 53.28% and 84.07% of total phosphorus and between 44.99% and 88.81% of dissolved phosphorus. This means that the plants absorbed a good amount of the phosphorus in the water, making it cleaner. The rice variety called Function No.1 was the best at cleaning the water and also had a high economic yield. This shows that using certain aquatic plants can not only help clean up polluted water but also be profitable.
