The study estimated the amount of organic carbon in the soil in western Chongqing. They found that the soil in low and middle mountains has the highest organic carbon density, while hills have the lowest. Limestone soil has the highest organic carbon density, followed by yellow soil. Forest land has the highest organic carbon density, while cultivated land has the highest organic carbon storage. Overall, the soil in Nanchuan and Jiangjin has lost a significant amount of organic carbon over time.
