The researchers used a hydrological model to study how changes in land use affect runoff in three watersheds in Dongjiang River Basin. They found that increasing forest area can reduce annual runoff, with more runoff in the dry season and less in the wet season. Additionally, runoff decreases more when forest area increases on slopes less than 15°.
