Rapid urbanization in Gaochun leads to drastic decrease in arable land.
The study looked at changes in land use in Gaochun Country from 1996 to 2008. They found that more farmland is being turned into construction land, driven by economic growth and urbanization. For every 100 million increase in GDP, 23.29 hectares of new construction land are needed, and 45.32 hectares of farmland are lost. Additionally, a 1% increase in urbanization leads to a loss of 173.13 hectares of farmland.
