The researchers studied the grain size of surface sediments in Fuzhou Bay, finding differences in sediment characteristics based on location. Sediments change from fine to coarse to fine from the estuary to the shallow sea, with distinct boundaries at the 5m and 10m isobaths. Most sediments in Fuzhou Bay come from the erosion of Liaodong Bay and Fuzhou Bay, with little river sediment reaching the area west of the 10m isobaths.
