New Wheat Cultivars Boost Crop Yields with Less Water and Nitrogen
The study looked at how two types of winter wheat plants absorb and use nitrogen when given limited water and nitrogen. They tested two popular wheat varieties, Jimai 22 and Shimai 15, in North China. The researchers found that under certain conditions, Jimai 22 had higher grain yield than Shimai 15. They also discovered that the N use efficiency and N productive efficiency were highest in Jimai 22 with lower nitrogen levels. Overall, the study showed that different irrigation and nitrogen levels can affect the growth and yield of winter wheat, with Jimai 22 performing better in certain conditions.
