Urbanization needs to match economic growth for success. A new method was used to measure how well each province in China balanced urbanization with economic development from 1985 to 1996. The study focused on Yunnan province and the entire country. Results show that urbanization in Yunnan lags behind economic growth, and different regions have varying levels of urbanization.
