The researchers studied hepatitis B virus in two counties in Sichuan. They looked at the genetic makeup of the virus in samples from infected individuals. They found that most samples belonged to genotype B/subtype adw2 and genotype C/subtype adrq+. Genotype B/subtype adw2 was the most common in the two counties, but they also found a rare genotype B/subtype adw3.
