Farmers Boost Crop Yields by Optimizing Sowing Time and Density
The researchers studied how changing when and how densely seeds are planted affects the growth and yield of a high-yield corn type called Zhengdan958. They found that delaying planting and increasing seed density can reduce the amount of corn that grows and how quickly it fills out. However, early planting with low to medium seed density produced the highest yields. The best time to plant Zhengdan958 corn is between April 21 and May 11, at a density of 45,000 to 67,500 plants per hectare. This information helps farmers know when and how densely to plant this type of corn for the best harvest results.
