Shrinking Chinese lake threatens water supply and ecosystem, urgent action needed
A study focused on protecting the water environment and using Bosten Lake sustainably in Xinjiang, China. Pollution in the lake has increased due to factors like declining water levels and industrial wastewater. Over 26 canals dump pollutants into the lake, causing issues like high mineralization and chlorine levels. The main pollution sources are canal drainages, especially the Huangshui canal. To safeguard the lake, actions proposed include creating a protected area, enforcing laws, managing pollutant discharges better, and preventing industrial sewage entry. It's vital to restore the lake's shore and wetlands, conserve water sources, and improve water circulation for long-term protection and usage.
