New hybrid rice boosts yields by 8.56% with high quality.
A new type of hybrid rice called You 161 was developed to have high yield and good quality. It outperformed another hybrid rice called Hanyou 1027 in trials, with an average yield increase of 8.56%. You 161 can yield up to 9.0 t/hm2 on a large scale, reaching a maximum of 11.50 t/hm2 in 1996. It also has high milling recovery and quick milking rate, meeting quality standards set by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture. The hybrid's success is due to a stable sterile line and a strong restorer line used in its breeding. The paper also provides guidance on how to grow and produce hybrid seeds of You 161.
