New Study Reveals Plants' Ability to Thrive in High Salt Environments
The study looked at how Medicago truncatula plants respond to salt stress by measuring their photosynthetic efficiency. They found that the plants can maintain high productivity under moderate salt levels, with the best photosynthesis happening at a salt concentration of 150mmol·L-1. At lower salt levels, certain photosynthetic parameters increased, reaching their peak at 150mmol·L-1. The plants shifted from being limited by stomata to being limited by other factors at this salt concentration. Overall, Medicago truncatula showed good adaptability to salt stress and maintained high photosynthetic productivity even under high salt levels.
