Contaminated vegetables in Hunan Province pose high health risk for adults.
The study looked at how mining and smelting affect soil and vegetables in a zinc-lead mining area in Hunan Province. They found that the soil and vegetables were heavily polluted with metals like cadmium, lead, copper, and zinc. The Three-colored amaranth vegetable was the most polluted. Eating these contaminated vegetables can pose health risks, especially for adults. It is recommended that farmers plant root vegetables instead.
