Fruit location affects taste and storability of 'Fuyu' persimmon harvests.
The researchers studied how different orchard locations and tree canopy positions affect the characteristics of 'Fuyu' persimmon fruits. Fruits from slop lands ripened earlier than those from low lands. Fruits outside the tree canopy were heavier and had better color, but were less firm. Potassium levels were higher in fruits inside the canopy. Fruits inside the canopy had lower softening after storing, compared to those outside. Fruit size was related to firmness, and softening was related to soluble solids, color, and firmness.
