Safer Coal Mining Practices Boost Production in Challenging Terrain
This paper discusses how a new mining technique was successfully used to extract coal from deep and soft seams in a mine in Panzhihua, China. The miners developed ways to prevent the roof from collapsing and machinery from sliding during the process. By studying the stress in the roof and the breaking of the coal, they found methods to manage and control these challenges. Their efficient practices allowed them to mine coal safely and effectively in difficult conditions, which could be useful for similar mining operations in the future.
