Yangtze River Basin faces worsening water quality and serious pollution.
The quality of water resources in the Yangtze River Basin was evaluated by analyzing data from 1,553 monitoring stations. The evaluation looked at hydrochemistry, current water quality of rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, nutrition status of lakes and reservoirs, water function areas, and groundwater quality. Overall, surface water quality in the basin is good, but some areas are getting worse. Groundwater quality is poor and heavily polluted.
