Deforestation in Huinan County Threatens Ecological Balance and Economic Growth
The study analyzed land use changes in Huinan County over the past 20 years using GIS software. It found that forest land decreased while cultivated land, construction land, and water area increased. The increase in cultivated and construction land benefited economic development, but the decrease in forest land harmed the ecological environment. Centroid analysis showed changes in land use patterns, with construction land moving to the Northeast and others to the Southeast. Measures are needed to prevent the conversion of forest land into cultivated land, especially on steep slopes, to prevent water loss and soil erosion.
