High Nitrogen Levels Boost Cotton Yield But Harm Reproductive Growth
The study looked at how different amounts of nitrogen fertilizer affect the growth and yield of hybrid cotton plants. They found that adding nitrogen improved the plant's growth and nutrient uptake, but only up to a certain point. Too much nitrogen led to excessive vegetative growth and lower seed cotton yield. The best results were seen with 300 kg·hm-2 of nitrogen, which increased yield by 1.66% compared to lower amounts. However, using 375 kg·hm-2 actually decreased yield. Overall, the study shows that the right amount of nitrogen is crucial for maximizing cotton production.
