Alpine plant communities show sensitivity to climate change in new study.
Alpine plant communities in the Qilian Mountains respond to climate change. Researchers moved plants to different elevations to see how they reacted. Sedges don't like wet soil, while graminoids and legumes prefer different temperatures. Forbs' abundance changes with elevation. Different plant groups respond differently to climate change. Legumes and forbs have a weak relationship, as do sedges and graminoids. The Kobresia meadow plant community remains stable even with simulated cooling.
