New study challenges traditional view of small-scale peasant economy in China
The theory of the unity of "the three sides" of small-scale peasants in China by Philip Huang is flawed. It only includes rich peasants, owner peasants, and tenant peasants, leaving out managerial farmers and farm laborers. The mode of production of managerial farmers and farm laborers does not accurately represent the small-scale peasant economy in China. The theory aims to expand the definition of small-scale peasants to include all these groups. Since managerial farmers are closely linked to agricultural commercialization, they should be the main focus when studying the impact of factors like agricultural commercialization and world economy on the small-scale peasant economy in China.
