Crop fields identified as major pollution source in Three-Gorge Reservoir watershed.
The SWAT model was used to study non-point source pollution in the Three-Gorge Reservoir watershed. Data from 2002 to 2008 was analyzed, showing successful simulation results for stream flow and sediment, but less accurate results for nutrients. Surface runoff and sediment load were closely related to precipitation, with sediment peak occurring earlier. Nutrient load, especially TP, was linked to sediment load. Crop fields were identified as the main source of pollution, highlighting the need for improved cultivation practices. The SWAT model is deemed effective for studying pollution in the area, providing valuable insights for pollution control efforts.
