New Wetland Design Boosts Water Purification, Saves Space, and Cuts Costs
A small-scale wetland system was improved to clean municipal wastewater more effectively. The wetland was redesigned with deeper sections to create anaerobic zones, and ceramic pellets were used instead of soil and gravel. Two stages were used to treat low and high concentration sewage, with high removal rates of pollutants like COD, TN, and phosphorus. The wetland's efficiency was affected by temperature and climate, but overall, it was successful in improving water quality and restoring aquatic ecosystems.
