A new type of rice called Ming 218A was created by crossing different rice plants. It has stable male sterility, big panicles with lots of grains, good flowering habits, high outcrossing rate, good grain quality, and high combining ability. This new rice variety was certified in April 2012 by the Fujian Provincial Crop Variety Release Committee.
