Carboniferous system in Central-Tarim Basin reveals potential for new oil reservoirs.
The study looked at the sedimentary layers in the Carboniferous period in the central Tarim Basin. They found four main types of sedimentary sequences, with the main types being littoral facies. Different sedimentary systems like fore(?)hore and tidal bank developed under this main type. They also found plateau and delta facies. Over time, the sedimentary environment changed from littoral to restricted platform facies. In this area, two types of reservoir beds were identified: sandstone and carbonate. Additionally, a good capping bed was found in the region.
