Steel box girder bridge decks withstand heavy loads, ensuring safe travel.
The researchers studied how well the steel deck of a cable-stayed bridge with a steel box girder performs, using the Qingdao Bay bridge as an example. They divided the deck into three systems to analyze its strength under different loads. By combining the stresses from these systems, they found that the maximum compressive stress is 87.7 MPa, meeting the required standard. The method they used to calculate the stresses may be conservative, but it is accurate enough for design purposes.
