Toxic Metals Pollute Water in Chinese Industrial Town, Threatening Public Health
The researchers investigated water pollution sources in Xinqiao Town, finding pollution from electroplating industry, domestic sewage, farm runoff, and overland flow. Electroplating industry released heavy metals, while other sources had nutrient salts and COD. Farm runoff was higher in rice season. Township domestic sewage was the biggest source. The order of pollution sources changed between rice and wheat seasons. Overall, the main pollutants were COD, TP, TN, and NH3-N. The type of industry in a town determined water pollution. Township sewage was higher than rural sewage, and overland flow had low pollution.
