Ecosystem services valuation to guide sustainable management and restoration
The article introduces a new way to understand and value the benefits nature provides to us, like clean air and water, called ecosystem services. Researchers created a system to classify these services and came up with fresh ideas like "top-drawer" services, theory-based value, and real-world value. By looking at a wetland in Wenzhou as an example, they showed how this system works. The study suggests that instead of measuring all services, focusing on top-priority ones can be enough for decision-making. Comparing the expected value with the actual value can help us see how healthy or damaged an ecosystem is, and how well it's being restored.
