New Wheat Cultivars Boost Grain Yield with Unique Photosynthesis Traits!
The study looked at how two types of winter wheat plants with different spike shapes absorb sunlight to make food and produce grains. Both types showed similar patterns of photosynthesis, with the highest rate happening during the flowering stage. One type had better photosynthesis before flowering, while the other was better after. The plants' leaf capacity for photosynthesis followed the same trend. The peak photosynthesis occurred at 10 am during the flowering and grain-filling stages. Different planting densities affected photosynthesis and grain yield differently for each type of wheat. The study suggests specific ways to grow these wheat types for high yields.
