New Study Reveals How to Reduce Nitrogen Loss in Soil
Researchers studied how different types of nitrogen fertilizers, application methods, and temperature affect nitrogen loss through volatilization in loessial soil. They found that ammonium bicarbonate resulted in the highest nitrogen loss at lower temperatures, followed by ammonium sulphate and urea. However, all three fertilizers had similar nitrogen loss at higher temperatures. Mixing nitrogen fertilizer with soil reduced nitrogen loss compared to surface application. Additionally, combining nitrogen fertilizer with superphosphate helped reduce ammonia volatilization from ammonium bicarbonate.
