Residual currents in Liaodong Bay shaping sand distribution patterns.
Scientists used a computer model to study tides and currents in Liaodong Bay. They found that the bay has irregular semidiurnal tides and regular semidiurnal currents. Current speeds are influenced by water depth and shoreline, with speeds reaching 140 cm/s in some areas. Residual currents are strongest at the bay's end, reaching 9 cm/s near Gaizhou Beach. A counterclockwise vortex near Gaizhou Beach affects sand distribution in the bay. The model's results matched well with actual observations.
