Population growth threatens arable land in Xinjiang, study finds.
The study analyzed what causes changes in farmland in YuTian Country from 1949 to 2004. They found that population, economy, and agricultural technology were the main factors driving these changes. The more people, money, and technology there were, the less farmland there was. However, higher farmer incomes and better crop yields were linked to more farmland. This shows that economic and population factors can affect how much farmland is available.
