New oil reservoir discovered in Ordos Basin, revolutionizing exploration techniques.
The researchers studied the sedimentary environment of the Chang 6 oil-bearing formation in the Nanzhuang District of the Ordos Basin. They found that the sedimentary environment consisted of lakes and deltas, with alternating layers of mudstone, siltstone, and sandstone. Different sedimentary microfacies were identified, including distributary channels, embayments, mouth bars, and sheet sands. The main reservoir in the area was the sandbody of the subaqueous distributary channel in the delta front. This study provides a foundation for efficiently exploring low-permeability oilfields and offers technical guidance for future work.
