Wind tunnel study reveals impact of human activities on alpine grassland water conservation.
The study used a wind tunnel to see how human activities affect water conservation in alpine grasslands in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. They looked at three types of grasslands and found that disturbing the root system reduces soil moisture more than cutting vegetation. The soil moisture content decreased as wind speed increased, with alpine meadow retaining the most moisture and alpine steppe the least. Overall, alpine meadow is the most effective at conserving soil moisture, followed by alpine steppe meadow and alpine steppe.
