Ant communities in Yunnan forests reveal rare species for conservation.
The researchers studied ant communities in Nangun River Nature Reserve in Yunnan to understand their diversity. They found 188 ant species in 16 sample plots, with different forests having varying numbers of species and individual densities. Valley rainforest had the most ant species, while mossy evergreen broad-leaf forest had the least. Rubber tree forest had the highest ant density. Mountain rainforest had the highest diversity and evenness, while teak forest had the lowest. Some forests were rich in rare species, making them important for conservation. Different vegetation types had significant differences in ant communities.
