Gastric bypass surgery lowers blood sugar in diabetic rats significantly.
Gastric bypass surgery was performed on type 2 diabetic rats to see how it affects their blood sugar levels. The surgery led to a gradual decrease in blood sugar levels, reaching the lowest point after 4 weeks. The levels then slightly increased after 8 weeks. The surgery also caused a decrease in dipeptidyl peptidase Ⅳ (DPP-Ⅳ) levels and an increase in glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) levels in the rats' blood. These changes were not seen in rats that did not undergo the surgery. Overall, gastric bypass surgery helped lower blood sugar levels in diabetic rats by affecting certain enzymes and hormones in their bodies.
