Rapid urban expansion threatens waterways and agriculture in Luxu Town.
The study looked at changes in land use and cover in Luxu town, Wujiang city, using satellite images. They found that town-building and industrial land are increasing, while ponds, lakes, agriculture land, and rural residential land are decreasing. The landscape is becoming more fragmented, especially agriculture land. Problems include waterways being filled for construction and flooding buffer zones being taken over. The evaluation showed that there is less land suitable for construction than needed.
