Lowering Tongguan's elevation could reduce flood risk in Weihe River.
The elevation of Tongguan affects the erosion of the Weihe River. When Tongguan's elevation decreases, erosion in the lower reaches of the river increases. This leads to the widening of the main channel, which improves flood discharge capacity and reduces flood risk for small to mid-scale floods. However, during over-bank floods, sedimentation on the floodplain raises the flood stage, increasing flood threat.
