Optimizing Nitrogen Forms Boosts Sugarbeet Yield and Root Activity Levels
The study looked at how different forms of nitrogen affect key enzyme activity in sugarbeet plants. They used Tian Yan-7 as the plant material and found that nitrate reductase activity increased with more nitrate. Glutamine synthetase activity first increased with more ammonium, then peaked when ammonium and nitrate were equal, before decreasing with more ammonium. In the root growth phase, sucrose synthetase activity was higher with a mix of ammonium and nitrate compared to nitrate alone. The best root and sugar yields were achieved when the ratio of ammonium to nitrate was 1:1.
