A new hybrid rice variety called Jianyou 388 was created by crossing two different rice plants. In tests, Jianyou 388 had a higher yield and grew faster than a common rice variety called CK. It also showed better resistance to disease, had good physical and chemical qualities, and tasted better. In a high-yield test, Jianyou 388 produced up to 13.71 tons per hectare. This new rice variety was officially approved for use in July 2010.
