A new type of rice called Q1A was created with high-quality grains. It was made by crossing different rice plants and selecting the best ones. Q1A has stable male sterility, meaning it can't pollinate itself, and produces good quality grains. A hybrid rice called Q You 2, made from Q1A, also has fine grains, high yield, and resistance to a disease called blast. This new rice variety was officially recognized in 2002 for its good qualities.
