New Rice Study Reveals Ideal Grains for Higher Amylose Content!
The researchers studied different types of rice to see how the amount of amylose (a type of starch) varied in grains within a single rice panicle. They found that the amylose content varied between grains, with a larger range in compact panicles compared to loose ones. The amylose content in each grain followed a normal distribution pattern. The correlation between amylose content and grain position was stronger in loose panicles than in compact ones. Grains at the top of a branch had higher amylose content than those below. Overall, the distribution of amylose content in a panicle was similar between compact and loose panicle types. It is recommended to analyze the third or fourth grains in a panicle branch for amylose content analysis.
