Wild barley genotypes show potential to boost crop yields and soil health.
A study looked at different types of wild barley to see which ones are best at using phosphorus efficiently. They found that some genotypes were much better at taking up phosphorus and growing than others. The soil around the roots of the efficient barley had different types of phosphorus in it compared to the less efficient barley. This information could help farmers choose barley varieties that use phosphorus well and improve crop yields.
