Low salinity threatens scallop survival, impacting aquaculture industry.
The researchers studied how well scallops can handle changes in salt levels in the water. They tried three different ways of lowering the salt levels to see which one the scallops could handle best. They found that the scallops did best when the salt level was lowered by 1 each day. When the salt level dropped too quickly, the scallops didn't do as well. The researchers also saw that low salt levels can harm the scallops' gills and liver. They recommend keeping the salt level in the water above 10 and not letting it change too much.
