Xinjiang's Population Carrying Capacity Declining, Intensifying Pressure on Resources.
The study looked at how many people Xinjiang can support without harming the environment. By using the ecological footprint model, researchers found that even though the total population in Xinjiang went down a bit, the area's ability to support people decreased more. This means there's more pressure on the environment from the population. The decrease in the area's ability to support people and the increase in people's impact on the environment are causing the population carrying capacity to go down. This trend is expected to continue. The study suggests that Xinjiang needs to consider these findings when making policies about its population.
