Erect panicle rice cultivars show potential for increased yield potential.
The study looked at how grains in different parts of rice panicles fill up in different types of rice plants. They found that in plants with upright panicles, the grains at the bottom and middle were affected by the grains at the top, leading to slower filling. However, these plants can still produce a good amount of grains. In plants with curved panicles, the grains in the middle were affected by the grains at the top, but to a lesser extent than in upright panicle plants. This research helps us understand how different types of rice plants fill their grains, which is important for increasing rice yields.
