Optimal planting density boosts fresh edible waxy corn yields significantly.
The researchers wanted to figure out the best number of plants to grow for three types of fresh edible waxy corn. They tested different planting densities and corn varieties to see how it affected the growth and yield of the corn. They found that as the planting density increased, the size of the corn ears decreased, but the number of barren ear tips and plant height increased. Each corn variety had an optimal planting density for the highest yield, with Jingkenuo 2000 doing best with 48,000 plants per hectare, Dushiliren with 60,000 plants per hectare, and Yumeitou 601 with 54,000 plants per hectare.
