Three Gorges Reservoir sediment transport impacts revealed: major changes ahead!
The study looked at how the sediment transport in the Three Gorges Reservoir changed before and after the initial water impoundment. They found that before the impoundment, there was little sediment coming in and the river channel was slightly scoured. During the impoundment, only about 10% of sediment was delivered, but after two impoundment processes, this increased to about 15%. Most sediment was deposited during high flood periods. Sediment mainly deposited in different sections depending on the inflow and sediment levels. Factors like terrain, water slope, discharge, and sediment concentration influenced sediment transport.
