Optimal water management boosts tomato growth in greenhouses, but lowers efficiency
Water management in tomato cultivation affects how well tomato leaves respond to light. By studying tomato plants under different irrigation levels, researchers found that increasing water led to higher photosynthesis rates, transpiration, and stomatal conductance. However, water use efficiency decreased with more water. Stomatal limitations were the main factor affecting photosynthesis, and providing 125% of the plant's water needs significantly improved photosynthesis but reduced water use efficiency.
